My Story

Retail runs in my blood. Growing up in a family with over 60 years of collective retail experience, I naturally gravitated toward the industry early in my career after college. I started in the trenches of store operations, managing the toy department during a chaotic Christmas season—a role that taught me the importance of organization, quick problem-solving, and resilience. These foundational experiences led me to the corporate office, where I undertook various roles including supply chain management, merchandise planning, and a position as a project manager liaison between IT and merchandising.

A significant turning point occurred when I was denied a promotion by a manager. His candid and constructive feedback served as a powerful motivator, prompting me to strive for greater accomplishments. He remains one of my most valued mentors to this day. Subsequently, as a planner, I was among the first individuals to join the apparel merchandising division. There, I developed expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and inventory management, leveraging the knowledge of my colleagues despite lacking prior experience in apparel categories. My role as a buyer broadened my global perspective through product sourcing trips to China. Visiting factories and renegotiating costs with innovative forecasting and off-season production strategies underscored the importance of collaborative problem-solving and innovation.

This adaptability became a hallmark of my career. Transitioning to another national retailer, I successfully managed new categories such as marine supplies by actively listening, learning, and collaborating with my team to make informed decisions and achieve results. Eventually, I ventured into independent contracting, assisting suppliers and manufacturers in managing their retail accounts, developing licensing and sourcing strategies, and streamlining processes. These diverse experiences have not only enhanced my understanding of the retail sector but also demonstrated my capacity to adapt and excel across various industries and challenges.
